Lord Shiva is the most powerful god who has the power to destroy the world. On the other hand, Parvati is known for her devotion and love. Their union made them the divine couple in the entire universe. Together, they are symbols of strength, love and dedication. They had a dignified marriage which all the divine gods witnessed. Their bond is an example of the masculine strength and feminine energy that is necessary to maintain the pillars of society.
Shiva and Parvati: The Divine Couple
Both Shiva and Parvati were unique in themselves. Far from a materialistic life, Lord Shiva married a princess who never cared about his looks. Often Shiva is shown with ash on his body with a third eye. This third eye is believed to see things that others can’t. According to mythology, Parvati was none other than Lord Shiva’s first wife’s incarnation “Sati”. This is the reason why she was always devoted to Lord Shiva. Their love story is an example of how two different entities can come together and maintain the balance between creation and destruction.
Shiva and Parvati: Marriage
Lord Shiva was mourning the death of his first wife Sati and was in deep meditation before meeting Goddess Parvati. Amidst his years of meditation, he was unaware that she had incarnated as Parvati. Sati took her life because she was unable to bear Daksh, her father’s insults and hate towards Lord Shiva. After immolation, Sati took birth as Parvati to unite with Lord Shiva.
According to Hindu mythology, once sage Narada came to meet her and told her that she could marry her previous birth husband only if she could adopt the path of penance or asceticism. Since Lord Shiva had isolated himself from the world, he was unaware of the situation and did not pay attention to Parvati. When the gods were tormented by Tarakasura, Kamadeva, who was known as the god of love, had to intervene. Kamadeva ultimately succeeded in breaking Lord Shiva’s meditation which enraged Lord Shiva. He opened his third eye and turned him into ashes. However, with this, he was able to recognize Parvati as Sati.
The wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati was a grand affair in which all the devas were present. Lord Brahma performed his duties as the divine priest of the marriage, while Lord Vishnu took care of the wedding arrangements and organized everything. Kanyadaan of Parvati was done by Lord Vishu only. Even today their wedding day is celebrated as Maha Shivratri every year. According to Hindu stories, Shiva waited millions of years for Sati to be reborn as Devi Parvati.
Both Shiva and Parvati waited years to marry each other and it took them years of meditation. For Shiva, it was the years of detachment from the world and for Parvati, it took her years to be reborn after strict penance. They both had two sons – Kartikeya and Ganesha.

Conclusion
The divine love story of Shiva and Parvati was the union of two souls with the power of true love and dedication. Beyond the age and different eras, they waited to be united and finally married each other. This divine marriage also shows that it can take years of strength and love to connect with the person you love. But if love is true, then the universe finds a way to create something magical.
Parvati did not choose Lord Shiva as her husband because of his looks but what she saw was his personality. His aura was so strong that Parvati was determined to marry her previous birth husband. It is believed that Shiva and Parvati’s marriage was the first love marriage in this world. Additionally, their relationship was based on adoration and devotion, not on looks and fulfilling longings.
