When is Chaitra Navratri 2024 Starting?

This year, Chaitra Navratri falls between 09 April and 17 April 2024. According to the Hindu calendar, Navratri will begin with Kalash establishment (kalash Sthapana) on April 9th.  The festival spans nine days, with each day dedicated to a different form of Goddess Durga, known as Navadurga. Devotees observe fasts, offer prayers, and participate in various rituals to seek the blessings of the divine feminine energy.

Procedure for Kalash Establishment in Chaitra Navratri 2024

To establish the Kalash, it should be placed in the northeast direction of the temple after installing the idol of Goddess Durga. The auspicious time for establishment is from 6:11 AM to 10:23 AM on 09 April 2024. Worshiping Goddess Durga during this time will bring peace and prosperity to homes.

To establish the Kalash, the place should first be cleaned with Ganga jal. A coconut should be placed on the Kalash, and a red cloth should be placed over it. After that, the idol of Goddess Durga should be adorned with a chunri, and a Ghee lamp should be lit continuously throughout Navratri. After decoration, chanting mantras while offering a prasad to the goddess is necessary.

Goddess Durga’s Vehicle in Chaitra Navratri 2024

The day on which Navratri commences gives an indication of Goddess Durga’s vehicle. Since Chaitra Navratri in 2024 starts on Tuesday, it is believed that Goddess Durga’s vehicle will be a horse. According to scriptures, the arrival of Goddess Durga on a horse is considered inauspicious, indicating political disturbance.

Forms of Goddess Durga in Chaitra Navratri 2024

Each day of Chaitra Navratri holds its own significance and is dedicated to a specific form of Goddess Durga. Devotees adorn their homes and temples with flowers, lights, and colorful decorations to welcome the divine presence of Goddess Durga. They offer prayers, perform rituals, and participate in devotional songs and dances to honor the goddess and seek her divine grace.

– First Day: Worship of Goddess Shailputri is performed along with the establishment of the Kalash, symbolizing prosperity.

– Second Day: Worship of Goddess Brahmacharini is performed.

– Third Day: Worship of Goddess Chandraghanta is performed to attain liberation from worldly problems.

– Fourth Day: Worship of Goddess Kushmanda is performed to eradicate all kinds of diseases and sorrows.

– Fifth Day: Worship of Goddess Skandamata is performed, and offerings of bananas are made.

– Sixth Day: Worship of Goddess Katyayani is performed.

– Seventh Day: Worship of Goddess Kaalratri, who destroys enemies, is performed.

– Eighth Day: Worship of Goddess Mahagauri is performed.

– Ninth Day: The ninth day of Chaitra Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri, who bestows all kinds of accomplishments upon her devotees.

The last day of Chaitra Navratri is celebrated as Ram Navami, which marks the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is a day of great joy and festivity, as devotees commemorate the birth of the divine prince who epitomized righteousness, truth, and devotion.

Special Considerations during Navratri

– It is advisable to keep the house clean during Navratri as it invites the grace of Goddess Lakshmi.

– It is inauspicious to cut nails or hair during the nine days of Navratri.

– Consume only Satvik (pure) food during this time, and avoid dishes containing garlic and onions.

– A pure ghee lamp should be kept burning continuously throughout Navratri.

– During Navratri, it is considered inauspicious to cook lentils and grains if observing a fast.
